It’s amazing how the variation in time required receiving your passport. One day to ten weeks seems to be a large stretch in delivery. Typically, if you obtain your expedited pass port in less than a month, it’s usually considered a rush delivery. There are a few alternative ways to receive your passport in an expedited manner. No matter which option you choose, you must fill out and complete an application for your passport.
Unless you are willing to pay for overnight delivery, it can still require about four weeks to receive your passport. The government offers expedited expedited U.S. passport for $60 or you can opt to go through a private company. It usually takes four weeks from the application date, however, if you make an appointment or visit a passport office you may receive your card a bit sooner.
Let us look at the two ways you might try in order to expedite your passport. If you do not plan to leave the country within two weeks then the first method is for you. However, if you plan to leave the U. S. within two weeks then you need to look at the second method.
The first step is to complete all of the application materials. Next, you will need to learn the cost of the passport and add an additional $60 for the rush fee. Learn the address of the passport office. Contact this office to find out what types of payments they will accept.
You will now want to put your completed materials, including payment, in a manila envelope addressed to the correct office. On the outside, write “Expedited”. You might want to pay for overnight service each way. Finally, take your envelope to the post office to mail. Or, you might prefer to use UPS or FedEx, however, whichever way you choose, ask for two-way service.
The second method, as previously stated, is for people who will be leaving the United States within two weeks. You need to be aware, however, even if you follow the directions to the letter, it is not a guarantee that you will have your passport within the two week period. You must prove that you will be leaving the U. S. In about two weeks via an e-ticket, a paid itinerary, or some other valid method. If you check the Department of State website you will see that you may not go to the post office or apply through the mail, if you plan to be gone within two weeks. It is mandatory that you apply in person.
To meet the requirements for the second method you must prepare your application materials. As in the first method, you need to find out the total cost of your passport and add $60 for the rush fee. You need to locate the passport agency nearest to your home. Place a call to this agency and you will be connected to an automated process that walks you through the appointment booking. Be sure to make note of the address, the appointment date and time, and the confirmation number.
Arrive early for your appointment and make certain to have all of the passport application materials. Make certain all of your expedited passport paperwork is in order. Be particularly certain you have specific proof you will be leaving the country within two weeks, otherwise, you are asking for some difficulties. Then, proceed through the process and good luck!
