High above the Trans Alaska pipeline, where the Atigun pass is found, a man has developed love for freezing snow after years of working here. So this gentleman, a retired civil engineer, shivered with delight upon hearing about the plan that the local university’s alumni association was brewing up, specifically about an Antarctic expedition. I thought, that sounds like a great idea. Known to be the coldest and least hospitable place on this planet, the white continent known as Antarctica has captured the imagination of many explorers, even the armchair sorts. You will gain a deeper understanding about cruise russia by checking out that resource.

But as many travelers understand that it is not so easy to head to this place due to its many constraints, there has been less travelers to this White Continent recently. Most trips to the Antarctic Peninsula originate in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in Argentina, and involve a two day, 1,000 kilometres voyage through the Drake Passage, known for some of the roughest sea weather in the world.

Experiences like this one is profound and memorable. After being discovered in 1820, men have traveled these lands since the 1800s. But it was only after 1959, when the Antarctic Treaty was ratified, that commercial voyages to the region commenced for the treaty made Antarctica into a natural reserve, a land devoted only to the enrichment of peace and science.

But following the collapse of the Iron Curtain in the 1990s was the expansion of the travel industry. But Russian ice rated expedition vessels were grabbed by many opportunistic tour operators to be rehashed for their commercial travel enterprises due to the lack of any funding for the scientific programs. Something extraordinary is being yearned by many visitors, mostly seasoned world travelers. Others are adventure seekers looking to follow in the footsteps of Sir Ernest Shackleton, whose legendary endurance expedition in 1914 remains one of the greatest tales of survival in expedition history. You can get the best ring of fire cruise information by visiting this website.

This spectacular land will enable you to cruise among gigantic glaciers and icebergs and fill the landscape, promising enjoyment especially among artists, photographers and nature lovers. Here is where you will be acquainted to seals, whales and different whale species like minke, killer and humpback. But don’t expect the polar bears for they thrive in the circumpolar area.

Small boats known as zodiacs brought people to the coast as there were no developed harbors and ports. You may now go hiking, take photos, go kayaking in the icebergs of just stand with the penguins. Your naturalist experts should be able to confidently answers queries about the frozen continent’s wildlife, marine biology, glaciology and history all the time.

Thanks to the countless lectures while he was aboard a 5 star cruise liner for eight days followed by three more days at Buenos Aires, he got to learn so much about the local landscapes and of course, wildlife. Penguin rookery excursions with the naturalists as tour guides were truly were amazing and unforgettable for him. These curious short legged birds walked to him without any trepidation, ready with a show.

But not all people get to enjoy Antarctic travel as much as the other people. Tourism is something that strikes most environmentalists as the growing number of tourists threatens the continent’s delicate ecosystem, leading to reduced populace with disrupted wildlife breeding processes. The global organization of Antarctic tour operators have agreed to strictly abide by the regulations set in order to minimize the ill environmental impacts caused by tourism to this land. If all tourists, companies and natural programs would comply with the good operational and conservation practices, the region would remain unblemished.

He is quick to add how sad it is that today, most television shows make people believe that animals, especially the multitudes of penguins that find home in Antarctica, are just there to entertain and delight u, further adding to the problem. If animals are used to people, they won’t be aggravated. But this long term disassociation from the real world has become a huge quandary. There is no applause from other conservationists when it comes to this. Allowing people to visit Antarctica, he argues, helps develop sensitivity for the continent.

Amidst the harsh conditions in Antarctica such as high winds, isolation, ice, rough seas and cold snow, both hardy and soft types will, precisely for such reasons, venture into this continent this tourist season, and all eleven thousand two hundred of them coming in from cruise liners, except for a few, around 130, who will opt for alternative transportation measures. The disparity of last year’s tourist season to this year, which ran from mid November up to February is only a weak 400 visitors but the truth is that this is actually an impressive 70 percent leap as compared to the season, all 6,585 of them before this one. Some Antarctica watchers, are concerned about its environment, have warned there could be thousand more annual Antarctic visitors. When you would like to get more information on papua new guinea tours check out this site.

Twenty thousand dollars gets one person a cruise to Antarctica, but he will have to also shoulder his 14 day cruise that costs a hefty six to seven thousand dollars and of course, a round trip ticket as he will have to depart from Ushuaia Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego, where 90 percent of voyagers originate. While most perceive Antarctica to be insulated from tourist throngs with the price of going there coupled by its unforgiving climate and geography, many of the naturalists today still insist that they have exceeded the acceptable number of tourists and this poses threats to their ecosystem.

The director of the Antarctic Project said that people should have an opportunity to see Antarctica’s beauty, but there should be a cap on the number of visitors and a ban on any new sites. This project which is based in Washington spans more than 40 nations and its conservation organizations amounting to over 200 of them as secretariat. Most people may avow fighting for the conservation of the Antarctic environment, the sad fact is that these travelers are dangerously in love with it and there are just too many people venturing into this fragile place.

This director’s nagging concern is the many tourists venturing to the same places on the 800 mile long Antarctic Peninsula, boasting of the most formidable concentration of penguins, seals and birds so he is proposing for a limit of visitors per year amounting to six thousand. Although tour groups, at a time, rarely exceed a hundred visitors stepping on land. When visitors come in, the animals don’t get much rest and neither do they get the chance to gather some food for their young, as well as for their own selves. Read this site if you want new guinea tours information.

Science doesn’t yet know whether this will have long term impact she added. Some of the fears include tourists touching flora and throwing garbage recklessly. Such is the explanation as to why when travelers go ashore, large and experienced staffs make sure they have little if no impact and also this is why many tour operators strictly observe the guidelines for visitors as stated by the system patterned after the Antarctic Treaty. To protect the environment, the series of efforts such as the Antarctic Treaty of 1959, ratified by 43 different countries, along with the environmental protocol signed last January 14, 1998 put an end to the various oil explorations and mining operations and even went into promoting environmental safeguards like limiting the fishing sprees along with lessening cruises around the Antarctic.

The members of the tour association based in New York City have agreed to abide by the 100 person promulgation applicable to shore visits, where zodiacs, small motorized rubber boats are utilized. This season, some 9 out of the 15 vessels in Antarctica soar with the flags of Russia. With the Soviet Union’s break up, a motley of smaller ships became accessible for tour operators. All of these vessels can resist strong ice with their hardened hulls especially the icebreaker, and these can take in as much as 40 to 80 people. But for the meantime, there is persisting and growing concern toward the white continent’s state of environment. We can wish that as we look back in the future, we heave a sigh of relief, as all those worries did not really come to something. But let us all be responsible and keep ourselves from frequent Antarctic visits while science do not know the answers yet.

In order to ensure the availability of scientific research on Antarctica, it can only be utilized for science. When visiting Antarctica, the ice sheet that spans the continent tends to be its most visually enticing attribute, extending for hundreds of miles throughout the south pole, covering the land of the continent and far more. Comparable in size to the State of Texas, one ice shelf is called the Ross Shelf Ice. Current measurements taken show that the edge of this ice mass moves north at approximately 1800 feet each year. Go to this site for further information on polar travel.

Two percent of the planet’s water and ninety percent of the world’s ice are found in Antarctica. Maintenance of sea levels across the globe rely on the fluctuations of the great inland ice. If it continues to melt, sea levels would rise visibly, and destroy seaports and alter coastlines.

Two hundred fifty feet would be added to the ocean’s levels if all that ice melted. As a result, we have to find out just how the Antarctic icecap is doing. Knowing how fast the ice is moving is not that important. Not only is the ice valuable in relation to sea level, but it also is a geophysical recording for up to the last million years.

Ice layers and snow contains information from the past on nuclear explosions, the utilization of lead in gasoline, and the first major lead smelting. During the past 60 years, records have been taken and kept concerning the amount of common lead precipitated over the ice’s surface. The results show that that has been a huge jump in lead concentration.  Scientists think this probably was caused by the use of leaded gasoline. Here it is maybe, that we will begin to understand the critical nature of the pollution challenges. You will find that further information on artic cruise is on that site.

Minute amounts of DDT have been discovered in seals, penguins, and a few fish in Antarctica, and yet no such amounts were discovered in polar snows. The ice layers can also provide information on items from space that have breached the atmosphere and imbedded in the ice sheet over time. Assuming that additional research uncovers that these particles contain a revolving pattern, then predictions concerning the amount and type of space particles that vehicles will run into can be determined.

The majority of the flora are lichens in Antarctica. Springtails and mites prove to be the most common land animals. With the biggest land animal a wingless fly, no flying insects live here. Oceans around Antarctica house the Weddell seal, the mammal who travels the farthest south, and a flightless penguin. Amazingly, the Weddell seal can dive up to 1500 feet and stay down for a long as 30 minutes without needing to come up for breath.

Antarctica offers a nesting ground to Adelie Penguins, who like the iceless areas on the coastline.  They only leave once winter approaches, and then they head north. Helping them to stay on a perfect course with amazing accuracy, they possess a biological clock and capability of steering by the sun. Six Adelies were let go 2,400 miles away from their home nests, and three of them returned home themselves in only ten months. These animals were flown to the South Pole and released. As soon as the penguins were released, they looked up at the sun and began a mission to make it back home exactly the way they came from.

The largest creature to live on this planet can found near Antarctica. Eating nearly one ton of shrimp daily, and weighing in at five times any past dinosaur, the great blue whale is nearing extinction. Compared to the Arctic, Antarctic seas contain a much greater diversity of fish. A stunning proof of the efficiency of the Antarctic Convergence lies in the statistic that 90 percent of all bottom dwelling Antarctic fish can not be discovered anywhere else on earth.

It may be quite difficult for someone who is not trained to see the contents of the bags and plastic vials as important. Much time is needed from the scientists especially with these samples originating from the Larsen Ice Shelf in Antarctica. A college senior said that mud can tell you a lot. The National Science Foundation funded a trip lasting a month for a handful of people from one college and university and this college senior belonged to the chosen few who explored Antarctica. Actually, these schools regularly take part in research cruises of all sorts. Visit this site for further information on darwin cruise.

The group departed from Punta Arenas Chile, in early February aboard a research vessel. Located on the eastern side of the Antarctic Peninsula was their first stop, the Larsen Ice Shelf, which was unexplored. According to a student, no one has ever been in that place. Sonar was used for measuring the depth of the ocean while the boat moved slowly. It was from the deck where the students and researchers gathered water and sediment samples and video footage. When it comes to the analysis of these samples, a decade is a short time.

In an effort to see how it is related to the situation of global warming today, the mud will be studied considering its composition and water content. Students said the trip was the opportunity of a lifetime. The trip allows you to really experience things firsthand, says a student. This student, who is a native of Scotland, plans to study global warming in graduate school. For the school of Oceanography in one university, a new student is to be expected next year and she is absolutely interested in spending the rest of her life on a ship.

Coping well with the extreme weather conditions in the Southern Hemisphere were these people. What was thought of was Upstate New York. Never mind the cold days if the sun rose and set at 430 am and 930 pm respectively. When you look out the window, the brightness can make it rather painful. There was no hour or day spent without science even without civilization. Midnight to noon or noon to midnight were the shifts designated to the students. From sleeping on the bunk beds to movie marathons in the group lounge, students on off days had something to do. Read this site if you want broome cruise information.

There is no absence of rules in any way here. It is important that seniors are informed about serious events. From checking out a newly discovered surface volcano to an emperor penguin became the task for a senior student. But this Dryden native says that this was the interesting bit. Things like these are actually favored. A trip to Vega Island was the best moment for her during the trip. When there are only about 10 people who have reached the location, it becomes an incredible feat.

Altogether, the students missed about five weeks of classes. During the trip not much work was done in terms of their schoolwork for they had busy schedules and their vessel dealt with several environmental perils. There is not much consolation in a ship that keeps moving. People back home received as little as two emails a day from them. But the close quarters and the absence of the distractions of daily life brought the students and faculty together. Any escape is a farfetched idea for a student. It’s a desolate area, an extreme environment, you become really close.

They used coolers to transport the samples of mud and rocks back to the United States with each one carrying the necessary documents for the customs officials. A student also carried five film rolls and 323 digital pictures. Embracing the environment became the option taken by a student who also joined in the expedition last year. Capturing things is better done live. Sometimes, you just have to appreciate what’s around you.

Crystal Cruise Line

There are quite a few cruise lines running in Europe which have been going on for a long time. So now there is a voting system for people to vote on the cruise line they have been in. Several people go on cruises on a yearly basis to Europe or to the Caribbean. After their trip some write reviews or comment on their trip through a certain cruise line. Positive review will add a point for the cruise line but the negative will minus the point. General public started this system 18 months ago or so.

Currently the best three European cruise lines are below:

Celebrity cruises

They have always been a big name but recently because of the help they provided to pick people up from Spain and bring them back to England because of volcanic ash has given them lots of votes. The cruise offers family friendly cruising and also has fun activities for kids ages 3-15. You will be able to interact with others from another countries and this is also good for your children.

Crystal Cruises

This cruise line offers supervised children’s program whenever there are lots of children on board. They have a fantastic in house service. They are full of help and the staffs are very friendly. The children will have the opportunity to meet people from different cultures which can help their improve their cultural awareness.

Cunard Cruises

Cunard cruises includes two of the largest cruise ships afloat, what are Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth 2.These ships have a teen centre. On board they have trained nannies and children nurses to look after the children. If you want to go for few drinks without your children then there will always be an option by having a nanny to look after them.

There are several other cruise lines around in Europe like Disney cruise line, Princess cruises line, Costa cruise lines, Regent cruise line, Holland America cruise line, Royal Caribbean Internation and many more.

Being a photographer on various cruise boats for several years, I managed to meet a great variety of people. I would say that being in a boat for 2 or more weeks generates some very different dynamics compared to the time we spend on the ground. People seem to be more open and relaxed as admittedly they will accept the fact that the boat is where everything happens from developing a new friendship and flirting with someone to breaking up and divorcing!

A luxury boat that is moving into the seven seas is like a small floating city. One factor many people overlook at is the fact that on board there aren’t just passengers and holiday-makers but also members of staff that have to stay on the boat for long periods of time. It is strictly forbidden for those people to develop social relationships with the passengers but sometimes it is inevitable.

The most typical profile a passenger is that he is around 60 years old, retired and wealthy. Although they all belong to different professions and educational backgrounds, the bottom line is that the vast majority of them are very successful in their fields. Apart from the expected diplomats, lawyers, architects, doctors and highly credited professionals it’s common to come across shop keepers, vendors and many small scale businessmen. That signifies that high education is not really one of the main factors, although a high income is.

Of course there is a small part of passengers who although they don’t make enough to be afford a luxury, they are happy saving hard in order to make their dream come true cruise. Some of them simply want to experience a different lifestyle which differs from their daily one greatly. Although I had that experience on Silversea Cruises where I used to work, other friends mine that used to work for Oceania Cruises and Cunard Cruises have witnessed similar incidents.

When it comes to sports, golf is definitely the number one while cricket and polo are also popular. Taking up a luxury cruise for many people could be a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience but it is definitely worth it..

The RMS Queen Elizabeth conjures connotation of patriotic glamour and luxury dating back over 70 years and still going strong today. The Queen Victoria was in the process of being built when the American depression halted all work being done on her and she lay derelict for years. After merging with White Star, Cunard was offered a loan to continue the work on the Queen Victoria as well as starting a new ship, the RMS Queen Elizabeth.

The Queen Elizabeth’s maiden journey was set to offer all the pomp and circumstance her name demanded. The outbreak of the Second World War required she launch as an aid to the war effort rather than the luxury liner was intended as. her unplanned war career was rewarded by Churchill as he credited both her and her sister the Queen Victoria responsible for helping end the war. With the war over and the two ocean liners returned to their original designation as cruise ships. For over 20 years these magnificent ships sailed the Atlantic symbolising the golden era of the cruise industry for Cunard Cruises.

It wasn’t until the end of the 1960’s that both ships were replaced in an attempt to keep up with the times. Air travel was offering to get people to their destinations quicker and cheaper than ships. Launched in 1969 the RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 would go onto become the flagship of Cunard Cruises and one of the most iconic ships in the world. She was designed to be smaller and cheaper and a practical alternative to the ever increasing popular air travel. After being the flag ship of not only Cunard cruises but the epitome of luxury 5 star cruises in general, she was brought by a Dubai investment company in 2007. The uncertain financial future of Dubai has halted the original plans to convert it into an opulent floating hotel. Unfortunately this has meant she has been left floating almost derelict at the moment.

In 2007 Cunard announced the launch of its third sea faring vessel to boast the Elizabeth name. With the launch of the MS Queen Elizabeth expected in the autumn of 2010 it’s promised to be the very embodiment of five star cruises and one of the most advanced ships on the water. Said to have the essence of the 1930’s in its interior decor it will exemplify the spirit and the class of its name sake predecessor.

When the summer comes several people are looking to go on luxury cruises. A lot of people are going for a cruise to Caribbean, South America and Caribbean. The current weather in the UK looks good and we are on our way to having the best summer for some time. Even if UK does have a nice summer, people are still looking for a vacation to a warm place. Because of previous summers it has now become a habit of many people.

The recent research from the cruise lines shows that, there are more volume of people going for a Caribbean cruise than any other cruise. The recent research done by few cruise lines such as Silversea Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Princess Cruises and Fred Olsen Cruises shows that many people tend to goto Caribbean. Mediterranean cruise is in the second after Caribbean.

The above cruise lines have fantastic and luxurious cruises. The services they provide is outstanding. You will have a great journey getting to the Caribbean and it greater journey getting back home. For retail therapy there are some mini shopping centres where you can enjoy shopping and you can enjoy few drinks is few cocktails bars they have. The scene of the sunrise and sunset from the cruise is fabulous.

Islands in the Caribbean are famous for luxurious resorts and beaches along with the rum. Hence why people choose to go to the Caribbean islands for a luxurious break. Just imagine you being under the warm sun, next to the sea relaxing on the sandy beach with rum cocktail in my hand. Shame I have to work otherwise I would be there, may be soon. I actually was in St.Vincent (one of the Caribbean islands) few years ago for my friend’s wedding. St.Vincent is where the movie Pirates of the Caribbean was made. I had a great time with his friends and family and I didn’t feel like coming back.

Being a keen traveller, I’ve visited so many different places and have experienced incredible moments that just the travelling experience can provide. Having experienced great moments of awe and admiration towards the nature’s miracles. From the high altitudes of the Peruvian mountains to the vast Amazon forest and from the glaciers of Patagonia to Morroco’s old clay towns there are so many memories and emotions to recall.

When it comes to choosing one of all those moments, I would definitely recall my time in the river Nile as the most electrifying one. it is impossible to put into words all those emotions and that great energy of the powerful river that used to be as sacred as the Sun. I had never considered river cruises as I couldn’t see any point having a cruise in a river.

Being a typical sea-born person I wouldn’t expect to feel so good anywhere far from the sea. Although I had spent some years of my life living in Budapest and Prague that were built in the Danube’s banks, I was never amazed by any river until that day.

During my travel in Egypt I met a very interesting American guy that was an expert in cruise deals and managed to make inhibitions go away and try one. According to his beliefs, for some of the greatest experiences in life there is only one chance which should not be missed. There are so many agencies selling Nile River Cruises at Aswan that buying one didn’t take us more than 10-15 minutes.

And what an experience it was, travelling in the mighty river Nile. Because of its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea there is a similar atmosphere. Just the thought that we were traversing the world’s longest river made me shiver and think of how many people’s lives were depending on that river which stretches all the way from Egypt to Ethiopia. So intense was the experience I had that it makes no wonder why ancient Egyptians worship had the Nile at its center.
